The film tells the story of three young people from
the border region between the Democratic Republic of
the Congo and Burundi, a region in Africa which in the
past 10 years has been haunted by civil wars, natural
catastrophes and other crises.
- In Bujumbura a young street worker shows the street
children's daily struggle for survival. He himself
was a street child, after both his parents fell victim
to the brutal civil war. Today he is the most important
contact person for the children.
- An assistant nurse, a former refugee herself, takes
care of women and children coming from a war area
and stranded in a shelter. Thereby it becomes known
that parts of the army systematically used rape as
strategy to infect entire communities with HIV.
- A young woman with her five children fled from
Congo to Burundi and was taken in in a refugee camp.
One of her children got lost during the flight, another
is critically ill. Still she considers herself lucky
among the displaced people.
